April 27th, 2006 Knitting Purse Design #6: Woven Mesh

Woven Mesh Knitting Purse Design

I usually draw out the designs before I get out the fabric, but I actually made this as a “fabric prototype”:http://karissacove.com/journal/2006/04/11/the-fabric-experiment/ before drawing this.

As you can see, I’m still playing around with this idea. I love the concept of having woven fabric strips on a knitting bag, it just makes sense to me.

April 27th, 2006 Knitting Purse Design #5: How to Knit

How to Knit Knitting Purse Design

This idea was a huge brainwave, how about silkscreening instructions showing the basics of knitting (i.e. How to cast on, knit, purl and bind off)?

Then I realized where the idea had come from — I had seen a tote like this a while ago on “Menu Design”:http://www.iheartmenu.com/. Now I couldn’t bear the idea of making something so similar to one of my online buddies, so it’s x-nay on the how to nitting-kay.

April 26th, 2006 Knitting Purse Design #4: Knitting Girl

Knitting Girl Knitting Purse Design

This idea started as a little sketch of a girl knitting. I’d like to take the drawing and turn it into a three-colour print: one colour for the hair and yarn, one for the t-shirt and then black for the lines.

I’ll probably need more practice with my multi-colour silkscreening before I can successfully pull this off, but it’s a super-cute idea — it would look cute on a XL sized tote.

April 26th, 2006 Knitting Purse Design #3: Vintage Quilt

Vintage Quilt Knitting Purse Design

This idea is a merger between the “I (heart) Knitting” and Nine Hearts designs — a patchwork quilt pattern in vintage prints with one of the squares silkscreened with “I (heart) to knit”.

No colour scheme yet for this one, it’s still pretty fresh in my mind.

April 25th, 2006 Knitting Purse Design #2: Nine Hearts

Nine Hearts Knitting Purse Design

I can’t help it, I think I’ve got multi-coloured hearts in my dna. I ALWAYS want to use hearts in EVERY design.

My idea this time is to have hearts cut from vintage fabrics, kind of like a patchwork quilt, but more cute and tidy looking. I was thinking a navy/red/yellow/green colour scheme.
