A few months back, I was inspired to make a knitted purse with wooden handles, back when I bought the “two hanks of Butterfly Mercerized Cotton”:http://karissacove.com/journal/2006/03/29/yarn-shopping/ from my LYS. Well, I finally put the finishing touches on my Cable Knit Purse this past weekend, just in time for the summer weather! Perfect!

I designed the pattern using a few different cabling techniques, and added some bobbles, which were time consuming, but turned out so cute — totally worth the extra work:

Once my new site goes up (it’s really coming!), I’ll be putting the pattern up for everyone who would like to make one, too.

Awesome! I have two sets of bamboo round handles laying around and now they have a project :)

Normally I hate bobbles, but on your bag they look so cute and classy :)

JUST gorgeous! I’m usually not a “knit purse” fan but this is really exceptional! Can’t wait for the pattern to come up.

Jennifer:
I wasn’t sure about the bobbles either, but I felt like there needed to be another dimension to the cables. I toyed with the idea of adding beads or sequins, but I wanted something that would never fall off or get damamged. They were a bit of a pain to knit, but I’m glad that I went with them in the end!

I love it! The color is so unexpected. I’m not usually a huge fan of cables, but the texture looks so amazing on this bag.

[…] I purchased the hank of turquoise Butterfly Mercerized Cotton to knit myself a little pouch for my Nintendo DS. The cables in my purse were a real success, so I’m going to incorporate a couple into this pattern as well. […]

I remember back in June 7, 2006 you posted the Cable Knit Purse with bobble stitches. You were going to have the pattern available once your website was up. However, I never got to see the pattern posted. I am interested in making this purse.
Please advise. my e-mail is ccvluveve-96@verizon.net
Thanks.

You know how when you are working on a project and you write a bunch of little pencil notes and you think you are going to remember what “1 m, back to front” means, but then when it comes time to decode all those shorthand scribbles you think you must have been heavily medicated when you originally wrote them? That’s me! I have been over and over the pattern for the Cable Knit bag and some of notes are completely illegible. I am going to have to knit another purse and actually write out every step along the way. Sorry for the wait, guys!

Thank you for another great article. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such a perfect way of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I am on the look for such information.
