New Etsy Items: Rick Rack Hearts & Lucky Stars http://crackersandhoney.com/2007/05/23/new-etsy-items-rick-rack-hearts-lucky-stars/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2007/05/23/new-etsy-items-rick-rack-hearts-lucky-stars/#comments Wed, 23 May 2007 23:36:50 +0000 http://crackersandhoney.com/2007/05/23/new-etsy-items-rick-rack-hearts-lucky-stars/ I posted new items on “Etsy”:http://karissacove.etsy.com, you can tell I’ve been meaning to for a while, both action shots have me in a jacket with snow on the ground!

h2. Rick Rack Heart Tote

Rick Rack Heart Tote

This tote is comprised of my three favourite things…hearts, rick rack and buttons! Patchwork hearts in polka-dots and vintage apples are adorned with rick rack detail around the edges.

h2. Lucky Star Tote

Lucky Star Tote

It took me about four versions before I perfected the size and materials of this tote. What makes this tote different from the final style is the pink piping around the edge. It was named the “Lucky Star” tote as an ode to Madonna’s song, which is often on the soundtrack of my crafty adventures.

It’s kind of hard to picture the final scarves, but they’re still pretty cute!

Mushroom Stems http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/09/26/mushroom-stems/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/09/26/mushroom-stems/#comments Tue, 26 Sep 2006 05:32:39 +0000 http://karissacove.com/2006/09/26/mushroom-stems/ Fall is in the air again, and I’m busy sewing up a batch of Mushroom scarves for “Fred Flare”:http://fredflare.com. These are the brown stems, all cut out and ready to be sewn:

Next, the little mushroom faces need to be silkscreened and decorated with pink cheeks and white dotties, then sewn to the polar fleece scarves. (The scarves will be available at “Fred Flare”:http://fredflare.com in November.)

Missus Coat Built by Me! http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/09/21/missus-coat-built-by-me/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/09/21/missus-coat-built-by-me/#comments Fri, 22 Sep 2006 03:16:55 +0000 http://dev.krewdesign.com/kc/cms/?p=103 I had been anticipating the canadian release of the new “Built by Wendy pattern line”:http://simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=section/wendy/wendy.html through Simplicity since I had first read about it online a year ago. While fabric shopping a few weeks ago I giddily flipped through the Simplicity pattern book looking for the Built By Wendy pattern section, and my heart nearly skipped a beat when I found the section. I immediately knew what my first Built By Wendy Project was going to be: the Misses Coat! I purchased pattern #4109, the fabric and notions and headed home to get to work.

After I had cut into the pattern I realized that I had accidentally bought a pattern smaller then what was suggested for my measurements. As I read more of the pattern directions I discovered that there is actually 6″ of ease on the coat which means that the garment has a fit that is an extra 6″ larger than your measurements. This happy mistake ended up being a coat that fits me just right with out being too large. I also took in the sleeves about 4″ because I didn’t want the hem too flared at the cuff:

I wonder if I could do something that combines these two?

The Colour Combo http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/05/17/the-colour-combo/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/05/17/the-colour-combo/#comments Wed, 17 May 2006 04:16:54 +0000 http://dev.krewdesign.com/kc/cms/?p=40 Like I mentioned yesterday, I’ve made some progress with the knitting purse – I’ve got one of my designs finished, which turned out a lot like “my first idea”:http://karissacove.com/journal/2006/04/11/the-fabric-experiment/:

Knitting Purse Colours

Knitting Purse Colours Closeup

I chose to tone down the colours, and put it on white instead of denim. I think it looks really preppy, and will be perfect for spring.

I’ve got the bag all finished up, and will post some pics tomorrow. I can’t wait to carry my knitting around!

Etsy + FUN FUN FUN http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/05/08/etsy-fun-fun-fun/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/05/08/etsy-fun-fun-fun/#comments Tue, 09 May 2006 03:27:11 +0000 http://dev.krewdesign.com/kc/cms/?p=35 We’re still plugging away on the new site and it’s starting to look great, too bad everything always takes longer than you expect. All of my customers are going to be using the same site, including my wholesalers, so it’s sorta complicated and has to be done right.

In the meantime, just for fun, I’ll be posting some “handmade items on Etsy”:http://karissacove.etsy.com. I have so many prototype purses and ideas that I wanted to try out but never ended up selling.

The first item up is the “FUN FUN FUN purse”:http://www.etsy.com/view_item.php?listing_id=196761:

Fun Fun Fun Handbag

This handbag was a prototype for my “Sweetheart Tote”:http://karissacove.com/etsy/sweetheart.jpg, and was before I had a final design — FUN FUN FUN was the first thing that popped into my head. It has my old “Crackers + Honey”:http://crackersandhoney.com tag and is completely one of a kind!

Nintendo DS Pouch http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/05/07/nintendo-ds-pouch/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/05/07/nintendo-ds-pouch/#comments Sun, 07 May 2006 05:09:29 +0000 http://dev.krewdesign.com/kc/cms/?p=34 My friend Katie had a Nintendo themed birthday party and it was a super-blast, to say the least! We did it all, played “Mario Dance Dance Revolution”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR_Mario_Mix, visited each other’s towns in “Animal Crossing”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_crossing_wild_world, ate cupcakes frosted like “power up” mushrooms, and we even watched “The Wizard”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wizard_%28film%29.

In keeping with the theme of the party, I made Katie a clutch/pouch for her Nintendo DS. I ended up using some of the “vintage fabric”:http://karissacove.com/journal/2006/03/15/vintage-fabric-ripoff/ that I bought last month:

Nintendo DS Pouch 1

Nintendo DS Pouch 2

Nintendo DS Pouch 3

It turned out great, so well I’m going to make one for myself!

My Janome http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/03/26/my-janome/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/03/26/my-janome/#comments Mon, 27 Mar 2006 03:30:16 +0000 http://dev.krewdesign.com/kc/cms/?p=67 My New Janome 6600

Yesterday was the big day — Kevin and I drove to Toronto to pick up my new “Janome Memory Craft 6600″:http://janome.com/product_show.php?id=731 from “Sewing World”:http://www.sewingmachine.ca/home.html.

I’ve sewing on it nonstop since we pulled it out the styroform — I’m completely smitten with all its fancy features, and it sure makes my old Kenmore 8 Stitch look like an antique. Listen to this, if you can believe it: automatic cutter, knee operated foot lift, over 500 stitches, start/stop button (instead of pedal powered), 1000 stitches a minute…I could go on and on.

But one of my favourite features and the major reason I wanted this model is the AcuFeed system, which makes for nice even sewing of multiple fabric layers without pulling or puckering. It has been amazing on my appliqued purses so far, and now I’m getting all inspired to start a quilt.

Fred Flare’s Next Big Thing http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/03/25/fred-flares-next-big-thing/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/03/25/fred-flares-next-big-thing/#comments Sat, 25 Mar 2006 20:01:25 +0000 http://dev.krewdesign.com/kc/cms/?p=41 I’m spending some time this weekend getting something together for “Fred Flare’s Next Big Thing Contest”:http://www.fredflare.com/customer/nextbigthing.php, but I’ve got to hurry, the deadline’s in six days! I didn’t even realize, time’s been moving so fast.

For those that don’t know, the Next Big Thing is an annual call-for-submissions from Fred Flare, who picks the best crafty & cute stuff and sells it on their fab website, here’s “last year’s winners”:http://www.fredflare.com/diary/nextbigthing.php?xid=117fbb83b8294438b28cfe2cd417b3c0.

Ok, back to my entry…

Vintage Fabric Ripoff http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/03/15/vintage-fabric-ripoff/ http://crackersandhoney.com/2006/03/15/vintage-fabric-ripoff/#comments Thu, 16 Mar 2006 02:53:21 +0000 http://dev.krewdesign.com/kc/cms/?p=63

As soon as I saw this mixed package of vintage fabrics at Value Village my mind started swirling with ideas — Would I make a “hobo tote”:http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=6043.0 for the summer, or a circular needle roll-up, maybe even a bibbed apron?!

Too bad once I got home and opened the bag, all the fabric and already been cut into and all I got were sloppy seconds. :( I guess there’s enough to make a mini-quilt or some patchwork pillows, but I was pretty disappointed.

Let this be a lesson to you!
